A pre-historic eel-like fish has been discovered in Wooditchup, Margaret River after a 20-year-long hunt.

Local tour guide Sean Blocksidge has been searching for Lampreys, which are jawless creatures that pre-date dinosaurs, for decades.

Mr Blocksidge said the remarkable discovery on October 19 goes against the odds, as he said no-one he knows has seen one in the last five-ten years. 

Adults only grow to between 500-700mm, which means they can be easy to miss if you aren't looking, according to the Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA).
