George Harrison's childhood home where the Beatles rehearsed in their early days is going up for auction for £160,000.

The Harrison family moved into the house in Upton Green, Speke, in Liverpool when Harrison was six years old.

They spent 12 years in the terraced property and it was where he and his friends Paul McCartney and John Lennon held their first band rehearsals.

Omega Auctions, which is handling the sale, expects the three-bedroom house will be bought by someone hoping to turn it into a museum.

A successful buyer could also now apply for a blue plaque for the property. To be eligible for one, the subject of the plaque has to have been dead for 20 years and Harrison died in November 2001.

Harold and Louise Harrison moved to the modest council house in 1949, when their son George was six.

It was close to where Paul McCartney lived with his parents.

The youngsters met while waiting for a school bus in 1954 and McCartney convinced Harrison to join a band with him.

Harrison auditioned for John Lennon and joined the skiffle band, The Quarrymen. By 1959 Lennon's school friends left the group and by August 1960 the band were known as The Beatles.

In those early years the young Beatles regularly rehearsed at Harrison's home.

Ringo Starr did not join the band until 1962, the year the Harrisons moved out of the house, just as the Beatles rocketed to international stardom.

There are lots of pictures in the public domain of Harrison inside and outside the property, which still has some of the period features from when he lived there.

Matthew and Edna Kermode bought the house from Liverpool City Council in 1983 and after their death their daughter Linda put it up for auction in 2014, when the current owners, who own several other
