A Pennsylvania mother, her live-in girlfriend and a relative have been arrested after the bodies of her two young daughters who had been missing for six years were discovered buried in their backyard, in what police are calling 'a travesty of colossal proportions.'

Authorities identified the remains of six-year-old Nicole Snyder and four-year-old Jasmine Snyder on Monday. Officials say that the older sister was buried in 2016 and the younger one was buried in 2017.

The girls’ mother, 32-year-old Marie Snyder, and her partner Echo Butler, 26, were arrested last week on charges of child endangerment and obstruction in Lycoming County.

Butler's mother, 48-year-old Michele Butler, was booked into the county jail on Tuesday on the same counts as her daughter and Snyder.
