Hated Covid rule is dumped to allow nightclub revellers to stand while drinking Vaccinated NSW residents now allowed to stand while drinking in nightclubs The restriction was quietly lifted by Health Minister Brad Hazzard on Wednesday Additional Covid-19 restrictions eased for vaccinated from November 8 State lifted more restrictions on Monday and hit 90 per cent vaccination By Miriah Davis For Daily Mail Australia Published: 00:17 GMT, 11 November 2021 | Updated: 00:17 GMT, 11 November 2021 Viewcomments A hated Covid restriction has been quietly scrapped to allow nightclub drinkers in NSW to sip their beverages while standing up indoors. Patrons were forced to sit at a table to prevent them mingling with other groups while inside and could only stand up in outdoor areas like rooftops. This was despite that being the main point of nightclubs, as opposed to pubs where patrons more often stick to their groups of friends. From November 8, dancing was allowed in nightclubs again but the ban on standing while drinking was not due to lift until December 1. Patrons will now be allowed to drink while standing in nightclubs and strip clubs after the NSW health minister quietly amended Covid-19 rules on Wednesday The changes mean restrictions are in line with rules for pubs and clubs, where patrons were allowed to drink while standing both indoors and outdoors. Health Minister Brad Hazzard fast-tracked an amendment of the public health order on Wednesday to allow patrons to stand while drinking at nightclubs and strip clubs. 'The object of this order is… to remove the requirement for occupiers of nightclubs or strip clubs in the general area not to allow persons to consume alcohol in an indoor area unless they are seated,' the amendment read. Nightclubs in NSW reopened on October 18, but only for seated drinking and no dancing, when the state hit its 80 per cent vaccination milestone. Many nightclubs chose to stay closed until dancing was allowed as they found it difficult to attract patrons. Covid-19 restrictions were eased for immunised residents in NSW on Monday just before the state hit 90 per cent vaccination on Tuesday. The new changes are now in line with with rules for pubs and clubs, where patrons were allowed to drink while standing indoors and outdoors Caps on homes parties and outdoor gatherings were removed, nightclub dance floors reopened, and hospitality businesses could fit twice as many inside. Hospitality venue density limits moved to one person per 2sqm, and stadiums, racecourses, theme parks, zoos, cinemas, and theatres can operate at 100 per cent seated capacity. Unvaccinated residents will have to wait until December 15, or when the state hits 95 per cent vaccination before they are allowed to enter most businesses. NSW recorded 216 Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm on Wednesday. Three people lost their lives after testing positive to the virus. There are 235 people in hospital and 41 in the ICU. The fastest-vaccinating state in Australia is surging towards the 95 per cent with 94 per cent of residents aged 16 years and over receiving their first dose of the vaccine.
