The annual Schoolies festival on the Gold Coast is under threat as two new Covid cases remain a mystery to health authorities.

Students from around Australia leaving Year 12 have traditionally arrived on Australia's party strip in late November for a parent-free party to celebrate the end of school.

At Queensland's Covid update on Friday, the state's acting chief health officer Dr Peter Aitken expressed fears about the upcoming event going ahead after the Covid cases of unknown origin were discovered on the Gold Coast.

'At this stage we’re not doing anything more in regards to restrictions on the Gold Coast. But we are worried because Schoolies is coming up,' DrAitken said.

'If we can get through the next week, I’m quite confident Schoolies would be just fine.'
