Surveillance footage captured Janness at a crosswalk with her dog, Bowie, at 10th St. and Piedmont Ave at 12:09am near the southwest entrance of the 185-acre park in the Midtown neighborhood. Janness had gone to visit her live-in girlfriend Emma Clark at a restaurant she worked at before taking Bowie to the nearby park. 'She came by the restaurant, I saw her, she said, 'Hi, I'm walking the dog then I'm going home,' Clark told CBS46. 'I figured she would be home because I saw her at 11:35 (pm); I didn't have the time because I was working.' When Clark returned to the home they shared for six years, Janness was not there. She tried calling her, to no avail, then used a tracking app on her phone and found Janness's body and the dead dog near another entrance of the park at Charles Allen Drive at around 1am, according to the police report. 'I could see Bowie; I didn't see Katie right away, it was pretty dark. I was there, I saw her, I went over to see if she was still alive; I ran,' Clark told the TV station. Emma Clark (right) found Janness's body and the dog after she tracked their location on her phone when they didn't return home Clark has begged the Atlanta Police Department to clear her as a suspect The Atlanta Police Department came to the scene after Clark had placed a chilling 911 call Clark's discovery of the body and the brutal nature of the crime made her an initial focus of the investigation. She has claimed that the Atlanta Police Department has told her that she is not a suspect but last week begged the APD to clear her name. 'They haven't publicly said that; I've been cooperating, they don't seem to be treating me with any hostility of sorts,' she told the TV station. 'They asked me questions, never treated me like they thought I had anything to do with it.' The APD would only release a general statement on the ongoing probe. 'The investigation into the murder of Katherine Janness remains open and very active,' the statement read. 'Our investigators continue working tirelessly to find the person(s) responsible. We understand it is frustrating for there to be so little information released publicly. 'However, to ensure the investigation isn't compromised, we simply cannot release much information on our active investigation. 'We know how important this case is to those in our communities and we will continue our work to bring this investigation to a resolution.' Janness and her dog were found near the Piedmont Park entrance after they had been killed at around 1am A memorial was set up for Janness and Bowie at the park Clark launched a GoFundMe page after Janness's murder that raised $75,000 and used a portion of it on funeral expenses. The rest she spent on a new condo away from the grim reminder of the couple's life together in the Midtown apartment they shared with their two dogs.. 'I'm doing the best I can be doing right now,' Clark said. Her father, Terrell Clark, released a statement on behalf of the family on Friday. 'With today's release of Katie’s autopsy report it's more important than ever that the search for her killer be a top priority for APD and the FBI,' Clark wrote. 'The report is extremely heartbreaking to read and know the exact nature of what Katie endured in her final moments on this Earth. 'Whoever is responsible is very disturbed and remains a danger to everyone’s safety. 'Please be vigilant and aware of your surroundings for we would hate for any family to be put through this nightmare.' All rights reserved for this news site (dailymail) and under his responsibility
