Body of missing woman, 52, was found in a suitcase in an alleyway near her home after her new husband reported her missing, inquest hears The body of Dawn Walker, 52, was discovered in a suitcase in an alleyway near her West Yorkshire home Grandmother and newlywed Dawn had only been married for five days before she was found dead Her husband, scrap man Thomas Nutt, 45, admitted killing his wife and reporting her missing By Chris Matthews For Mailonline Published: 18:48 GMT, 16 November 2021 | Updated: 18:48 GMT, 16 November 2021 The body of a newlywed wife was found dumped in a suitcase near her home after her husband reported her missing. Dawn Walker, 52, was found dead by police and paramedics close to her home in Halifax, West Yorkshire, on Halloween. Her husband, scrap man Thomas Nutt, 45, had initially reported Dawn missing on the same day, an inquest into her death at Bradford Coroners court heard today. Nutt, 45, of Lightcliffe, near Brighouse, West Yorkshire was arrested after the discovery. Nutt admitted killing Ms Walker but 'he did not intend to kill her or cause her really serious harm'. Dawn Walker, left, married Thomas Nutt, right, four days before her body was found in a suitcase in West Yorkshire on October 31 Nutt is charged with murdering Ms Walker some time between October 27 - the day they were married - and October 31, when her body was found in a suitcase Ms Walker pictured as a younger woman. Her new husband reported her missing before police and paramedics found her body in a suitcase He had told police that Dawn had left their house at 9.30am on Sunday, October 31, with plans to meet her daughter but that she had failed to turn up. The inquest was told that after a call at 4.38pm that day, police and paramedics attended an alleyway between houses at Aysgarth Avenue in Lightcliffe, West Yorks. They then made the discovery of Dawn's body in a suitcase, the inquest heard. Nutt admitted killing Ms Walker but 'he did not intend to kill her or cause her really serious harm' Nutt was remanded in custody in HMP Leeds until February 10 for a plea and trial preparation hearing The inquest heard that Thomas Nutt, 45, has been charged with murder and has been remanded in custody ahead of a trial at Bradford Crown Court. Senior coroner Martin Fleming told the hearing how a forensic post-mortem had been carried out, but that Nutt's legal team had requested a second one to be undertaken. It was heard the second pathologist had already been in discussion with Dr Hope, who had carried out the original examination, and Mr Fleming hoped a desktop review would be sufficient. Ms Walker was a grandmother who had only got married to Nutt five days before her body was found in the suitcase The inquest was adjourned until the outcome of the court proceedings. Mr Fleming expressed his condolences to Miss Walker's family at what he described as a 'very, very sad and tragic time'. Nutt was charged with murdering the grandmother between October 27 - the day they were married - and October 31, Halloween, the day her body was discovered. The counsel for the defence Abigail Langford previously said in court: 'The defendant accepts killing the deceased. The issue in the case will be that he didn't intend to kill her or cause her really serious harm.' She added: 'He accepts unlawfully killing his wife.' Miss Langford said that Nutt had agreed to be assessed by a psychiatrist because of the circumstances and background to the case. A seven-day trial was fixed for July 25 next year when Nutt will be represented by leading counsel Stephen Wood QC. The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Richard Mansell QC, said the court would try to find an earlier date or perhaps look elsewhere on the circuit for one. Nutt will next appear before the court on a video link to prison, on February 10 for a plea and trial preparation hearing when he will enter a plea to the allegation of murder.
