A teenager who brutally slaughtered a 10-year-old girl last year was a sensitive child devoted to animals - until she was tortured by the demons in her mind. Teachers described the young pet-lover, from Gunnedah, NSW, as 'peaceful and caring' which 'shines through when she talks about her love for animals'. But voices in her head drove her to kill in such a gruesome manner, a judge has banned media outlets from revealing the fatal injuries for the next 20 years. Court documents chart the child's descent from a 'relaxed, calm and collected' student with a 'strong sense of right and wrong' into a killer who struck at a Gunnedah farmhouse in northern NSW in July 2020. Pages from her diary revealed she fantasised about butchering her family in a massacre - and had been practising daily on her pet chickens. The teenager who brutally slaughtered a 10-year-old girl was a sensitive angelic child devoted to animals - until she was tortured by the demons in her mind (pictured, the killer being interviewed by police) 'I've only mutilated small animals so far but just imagine how nice it's gonna feel when I do it to a human,' she wrote just days before killing the 10-year-old. In the diary, revealed in the court documents, she described in gory detail how she planned to kill her mother and father and little sister before violating their corpses. The teenager, who can't be named for legal reasons, admitted she had been killing the family's chickens for months while pretending to her mother they had escaped. She would take body parts of the chickens into school to show off to the other students - before bringing in an horrific video of her killing one as proof. THE TORMENTED TEEN'S PLAN TO MASSACRE HER ENTIRE FAMILY Detective found the teenager's diary which spelt out a shocking plot to wipe out her entire family in a carefully planned, bloodthirsty massacre. 'I'm getting sick and tired of being told I am a liar when I say I see cat's eyes in a dark room and feel like I am going to kill someone,' she wrote. 'Well I've been planning it for a long time so now I'm going to do something stupid and write down my plan on what I'll do for my serial murders. 'I'm first of all going to kill my family first - don't want no people dobbing on me. 'First I'll kill dad by slitting his throat. He may not die as quick and he's the only person I'm reluctant to kill. 'Dad isn't a bad person. He is a boy and I only hate girls but of course I can't kill mum and leave dad because he is stronger than me - I'll be screwed. 'I'll then kill mum. By no visions in my mind, they won't wake up with me simply coming into their bedroom (their floorboards are loud as). 'I'll kill her by stabbing her in the back and slicing her throat. 'But the fun only starts when I get to my sister. She could be awake from the racket but I'll grab the baseball bat and slam it in her face over and over until that stupid brat is dead. 'Of course I'll only do that for the sheer fun of getting them dead until I have a little fun cutting their stomachs open and pulling their eyes out before dismembering them and hanging their corpses on the table and light. 'I'll leave dad in bed or wherever I killed them. 'I don't know why I'm doing this but whenever I'm being b****ed at I can't help but want to kill them. 'I don't doubt my life will be nothing but running away but also there's no light at the end of the tunnel. 'It's pitch black. ‘I’ve never been able to picture myself with a family of my own, a house I can call home, a job to work for a living or just simply to have someone who likes for who I am. 'I love anyone. 'I'm just tired of feeling nothing is real. It's as if everything is on repeat and nothing is changing except my underlying desire to rip someone's organs out. 'I've only mutilated small animals so far but just imagine how nice it's gonna feel when I do it to a human. 'I had a really good dream on [July] 4th about killing someone and I just got some encouragement from that dream about what I'm going to do.' Advertisement Voices in the teenager's head drove her to kill in such a gruesome manner at a farmhouse in Gunnedah, northern NSW, (pictured) in July 2020, a judge has banned media outlets from revealing the fatal injuries for 20 years Revealing how she first started her savage slaughter of the chickens, she wrote in her diary: 'I wanted to do a small experiment with a nice kitchen knife I had in my possession. 'I went out to the chicken pen and went inside. They were so unsuspecting of me. I grabbed an Isa Brown and stabbed it. 'The squeak of both shock and pain that came from it was lovely so I repeated the action many times. I forgot to count. 'Somehow the sorry animal was still alive so I grabbed it and tore the creature open and began wrenching its organs out from its body though it was still alive so I then decided to finish it off by suffocating it in water. 'When it finally died, I hid its body and continued indulging the activity each day. 'Such a shame I wasn't more discreet with the number I killed because mum found out - or should I say my little sister came in when I was finishing off a chicken and was shocked s***less. 'I could see the fear in her eyes and I can't explain how much willpower it took for me to not just do the same to her. A voice was telling me to kill her as well.' The night before she killed the 10-year-old (pictured), the teenager wrote in her diary about plan to slaughter her family and eight more people But when she was younger, and loved her snake, three cats, three dogs and fish, there were no sign of the horrors in her tormented mind. Teachers had nothing but praise for her in Years 3 and 4. '[She] always amazes me with extensive knowledge of all things natural, from snakes to vegetables,' said her Year 4 teacher. 'It was a pleasure to have [her] in my class.' Her art teacher hailed her drawing skills and said she was an 'energetic, happy child who was always smiling'. Her grandmother said the killer-to-be was 'very sensitive and didn't want to harm or even eat animals'. She added: '[She] was a happy, bright and fun-loving child who was artistic with a great imagination.' A neighbour told police that she was an 'outgoing, beautiful girl'. But once she turned 10, it all began to change. In school, she would suddenly meow and act like a cat, sometimes licking her own leg in class and biting herself. When the teenager was younger, and loved her snake, three cats, three dogs and fish, there were no sign of the horrors in her tormented mind (pictured, police at the scene of the killing) Other students would tease her for being weird and by the age of 12 she started to fight back, shoving students and stabbing her friends with a pen until they bled. After teachers saw her biting herself so hard she drew blood, and then used a stapler on her own hand, she was referred to a GP who she told of her fears about change, the future and death. In school counselling, she admitted to a long list of concerns about not being wanted and being unable to 'handle it'. 'Nobody likes me, I'm too weird,' she told counsellors. 'I'm invisible, there's something wrong with me. I'm disgusting. I'm damaged. 'I don't want to be here any more.' In high school, her classwork was marked by a new morbid sense of humour, joking in history about using bayonets to gouge out eyes and stab other parts of the body. 'She wasn't the same vibrant kid that I had known,' noted one teacher. The teen began hanging out with new Goth-type friends and became obsessed with knives, building up a collection, with each one named individually and displayed in her bedroom. She used those knives to start killing the family's chickens, confessing to her father when confronted that she had taken a skewer to one of them as she 'wanted to see what was inside'. At one stage she proudly pulled out bits of a chicken in the middle of a science class and yelled about it until the shocked teacher told her to put them away and stop screaming. At home, she admitted to her grandfather she had started hearing voices, and said: 'This makes me feel not real.' She told classmates she was having dreams and nightmares which were so realistic she no longer knew what was real and what wasn't. She told another she was seriously thinking about suicide and warned her: 'Want me to prove it? I just don't see any point in living.' The killer used her knives to start butchering the family's chickens, confessing to her father that she had taken a skewer to one of them 'as she wanted to see what was inside' (pictured, police search a paddock near the scene of the killing) The teen became obsessed with dark anime, watching videos on her phone with a friend at recess and lunch, while writing anime fan-fiction at home. Her stories were usually unfinished but often featured a main character based on someone like her with a 'special ability' to kill people. In one story, she wrote: 'Just because she kills people doesn't mean she has no guilt. 'Though she has little empathy, she is well aware of how wrong and cruel her actions are.' Schoolmates said the teen told them she liked Satan and would often draw satanic symbols and tell them she had a 'demon friend under her bed'. And in the weeks leading up to the killing, her close friends began to get increasingly concerned for her. A month before, she told one friend how there was a voice in her head who told her to do things, and she no longer knew what was real and what was a dream. She said that when she got mad, the voice told her to hurt people - but she didn't want to. Her writing got increasingly gruesome, inventing savage bloodthirsty murders. 'That's when the 14 year old embraced her impulses and psychotic personality,' she wrote. 'For someone who doesn't fear death, she sure does enjoy seeing it happen.' In another story - titled 'I am Lonley' (sic) - she fantasised about inflicting injuries on a policeman which would be almost identical to the attack on her 10-year-old victim. In her diary she tried to put into words how her mind was getting away from her, describing it as a tugging sensation. Police arrested the teenager (pictured) without a struggle after she was found near the scene of the killing 'Just calling it a tugging feeling sounds strange so I'll explain it,' she wrote. 'It's a feeling I get when in a certain situation such as when I'm frustrated, angry or sad even but mostly negative or on occasions positive emotions. 'It's an urge to do something and a very strong urge at that - in fact I swear I can hear a small voice in the back of my head telling me to do something.' She added: 'Around year five when I was ten, I started to act much differently to what I normally used to act like and started to self harm. 'I blamed it all on not wanting mum and dad to die before me so I just wanted to die before them so I wouldn't have to live on in a world without them. 'Which was something I suppose is slightly true but the thought of death, despite it being, like, I didn't like it, was something so interesting and fascinating to me. 'Something I wanted to do.' The teenager's writing got increasingly gruesome, inventing savage bloodthirsty murders in the lead up to the killing (pictured, police conduct a roadside search after the killing) In her diary, she revealed she was now regularly seeing an eerie vision in the darkness that looked like the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland. 'Every time I'm in a dark room, I can just turn my head the wrong way and bam! I see some creepy looking cat's eyes in front of me,' she wrote. 'Sure sounds dumb but I've always seen them ever since.. well, God, I can't even remember when I first started to see them. 'Typically they only appear a blueish turquoise colour.' By June 2020, just a few weeks before she would attack and kill her victim shortly after dawn on July 8, she admitted her murderous thoughts. 'I fantasise about killing people all the time,' she wrote. 'It's not sometimes, it's all the time. Every moment I have spare is planning and thinking about killing someone. 'It doesn't matter who either - I'd kill my parents, family and my friends even, strangely enough.' She added: 'I don't know why I think about stuff like this but I do love my mum and dad. Why must I think these things? 'But I don't care. Besides, it could all be just a dream.' The NSW Supreme Court last week found the teenager was not criminally responsible for the killing due to mental illness (pictured, Tamworth Court House where the killer first appeared) Around this time, her father bought her a tomahawk to cut wood as she couldn't control the big axe well enough. The teen nicknamed the chopper 'Tommy'. A few days later she tried to tell her mum that she thought about killing people all the time, and that voice in her head told her it would be okay if she did. For the first time, the parents said they became concerned for their daughter and contacted a psychiatrist for a teleconference appointment on July 1. On July 6, the teenager spelt out her plan to kill her family in her diary after a dream two nights earlier had encouraged her to put it into action. The following day, the teenager tried to get her 12-year-old sister and 10-year-old victim to play a game of 'serial killers' with her in one of the paddocks. The younger girls refused because they said it 'sounded scary' so they played hide and seek instead. But the game ended in tears when the teenager stood on the youngest girl's hand then chased her with a knife until the terrified, sobbing 10-year-old fell in prickles. Days before the killing, the teenager told her mother she thought about killing people all the time, and that voice in her head told her it would be okay if she did (pictured, police search for clues near the scene of the killing) The teenager stood over her and said, 'You're lucky I wasn't serious that time' before letting her ride her bike home to safety. In her diary later that evening, she wrote: 'I [have] packed my bag with the essentials - hatchet, long knives, spare clothing, baseball bat, bandages and food. 'I will, if I can, take mum's phone so I only have dad to worry about calling the police. I'll beat the s*** sticks out of dad and kill mum but I can't be too loud. 'If I'm correct my kill count will be 11 people. It would've been bigger if I had the strength to kill [the neighbours].' That night she texted a friend to warn her she was on a mission to kill and had stood over her sleeping parents 'with a big a** knife'. Hours before the killing, the teenager texted a friend (pictured) that she wanted to kill her family and had stood over her sleeping parents with a 'big a** knife' Her worried friend tried to calm her but the teen insisted she was running out of patience and 'may not last until school'. The next morning, the teen's father left for work at 4.30am on July 8, 2020, and the teen's mother and sister went out around dawn to milk the cows. Between 6.30am and 7am, the teenager picked up Tommy the tomahawk, found her 10-year-old victim and slaughtered her before dragging her body to her little sister's room. She then put on a backpack and walked out the house. Police later found her and arrested her without a struggle. A psychiatric report found the girl was suffering from untreated schizophrenia which included auditory hallucinations coaxing her to kill, and delusions her life and experiences were not real. She told the psychiatrist it was one of the voices, called 'Rae', which had told her to go into her parents room with a knife the night before the killing. 'Just kill them – think of all the wrongs they have done,' the voice told the girl. A psychiatric report found the girl was suffering from untreated schizophrenia which included auditory hallucinations coaxing her to kill, and delusions her life and experiences were not real (pictured, police at a paddock next to the scene of the killing) The girl claimed she was then visited by another muffled and hoarse voice, called 'Get Them', the following morning. She said it had urged her to kill the 10-year-old girl at the farmhouse. The NSW Supreme Court last week found the teenager was not criminally responsible for the killing due to mental illness. A short no-jury trial before Acting Justice Carolyn Simpson found the girl was suffering from severe mental illness and had difficulty separating 'dreams from reality'. The teenager will remain in detention under supervision and will be reviewed by the Mental Health Tribunal until deemed fit for release.
