A mother allegedly told her son to drown his little brother because she believed he was the 'devil child' and would be 'reborn' again.

Police say Salimah Elizabeth Ainsworth, 39, believed her three-year-old was a demon and told her older child to drown him in the bath to 'cleanse' him.

She is then accused of taking the boy from the bath and holding his nose to stop him breathing before the child went unconscious.

He allegedly was then forced to stay outside naked for several hours, with neighbours hearing his screams, according to reporting by The West.
