California police have evacuated a landfill to search for possible remains of missing mom Heidi Planck, 39, who was last seen on surveillance footage six weeks ago walking her dog outside of a high-rise apartment in downtown Los Angeles.

Investigators on Monday began combing Chiquita Canyon Landfill in the city of Castaic 'to excavate a specific area of the landfill, manually search it for human remains, and collect any related evidence,' according to the LAPD.

The Chiquita Canyon Landfill is a privately-operated site where commercial haul away trash containers from across Southern California are often dumped, according to NBC Los Angeles. A search of the area is set to take seven to 10 days.

'The forensics have taken them to this place. I am fully confident they will figure this out. If there's something in there, they're going to find out,' Planck's ex-husband Jim Wayne, with whom she shares an 11-year-old son, told reporters on Monday.

'I have an 11-year-old boy at home who needs to know what has happened to his mom. We need some help - however we can do it. Our family needs the answers. The community of friends, for sure, that's gathered around needs some answers,' he added.

Despite their search for human remains, police have not publicly said whether they suspect foul play and have not named any persons of interest in her disappearance.

Planck went missing on October 17 after leaving her son's football game in the Los Angeles suburb of Downey, before she was seen on surveillance video walking her dog, Seven, near the Hope + Flower apartment complex - 30 miles away.

After her disappearance, Seven, was found wandering alone through the upper floor of the complex. The Los Angeles Police Department recently found unspecified forensic evidence in the building leading them to believe that there was an 'incident' resulting in Planck's death.

It is also unclear what connection Planck has to the Hope + Flower or why she was walking her dog 30 miles away from her home in Downey.

Residents at the building have previously raised concerns about the location and it has garnered a series of negative reviews on Yelp, most of which warn about 'criminal activity and guns fired' at the location.

Planck's 2017 Range Rover was also found at an underground parking garage several blocks from the Hope + Flower. It has since been seized and impounded by police, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Planck is financial controller for Camden Capital Partners, whose managing partner Jason Sugarman, a minority owner of the MLS team Los Angeles FC, is under investigation for a $43million fraud scheme.

Sugarman's business partner Jason Galanis is currently serving a sentence of more than 15 years in federal prison in San Pedro, California, for multiple frauds.

He was also ordered to forfeit $80million when he was sentenced in September 2020.

Sugarman was seen on surveillance camera delivering a bag of muffins to Planck's home in the Reynier Village section of Los Angeles two days after she disappeared.

Wayne previously told DailyMail.com he believes 'the answer to Heidi's whereabouts lies with her boss, Jason Sugarman, and his company.'

He said he suspects foul play is involved in his ex-wife's disappearance and believes that her job at the investment firm is somehow connected.

Planck works as a financial controller, overseeing all employees involved in the accounting process at Camden Capital Partners LLC, where Sugarman is a managing partner who is currently under investigation for a $43million fraud scheme.

As previously reported, Wayne said he received a phone call from an official with the Securities and Exchange Commission asking about Jason Sugarman, the managing partner at Camden Capital Partners LLC, the company that employs Heidi.
