Detective Superintendent Des Bray announced on Wednesday he will lead the investigation looking into the deaths of Robert Atkins, Trevor King and Jeff Mundy. All men were allegedly murdered by low-level drug dealers and petty criminals. It is believed they were intentionally given a lethal dose of a drug, otherwise known as a 'hot shot', Detective Superintendent Bray said. He said there were likely multiple people involved with the murders. There may also be other deaths linked to the killings. Adelaide man Robert Atkins, who disappeared in January, was held captive and tortured for up to a week before he was transported to Port Pirie where police allege he was killed. Forty-two detectives, intelligence officers and forensic scientists are involved in the task force. Details were released by police on the deaths of the three men, all of whom were from Adelaide's southern suburbs. Police said Robert Atkins, 31, was held captive and tortured for up to a week before he was transported to Port Pirie where police allege he was killed. Atkins' body has not been found but is believed to have been left near Orroroo. The vehicle believed to have been used by the suspect was a black 2010 Jeep Cherokee with the registration number S556AJE. It was captured by a safety camera on its way back to Adelaide near Willaston. Mr Atkins was last seen on CCTV in the presence of another man purchasing items from a store before the pair left the store together. The body of Trevor King, 41, was found at West Lakes in January 2020, while Jeff Mundy, 36, was last seen in CCTV footage at a chemist on December 19, 2020. Police allege Mr King was unlawfully detained and assaulted as a result of a drug debt that increased from $1000 to an eventual total of $50,000.
