The latest Netflix action comedy hit Red Notice has now become the most watched film on the platform after racking up 328.8 million viewing hours, despite poor reviews.

Netflix announced the blockbuster movie's success Tuesday, saying that over half its 214 million subscribers across the world had tuned in.

Red Notice starring A-list Hollywood celebrities such as Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot premiered on Netflix on November 5. It was also released in theaters for people who wish to enjoy it on the big screen, but so far has only made around $2 million of its $200 million production cost back.

Netflix won't mind though, with the huge outlay on the movie primarily intended to drive subscribers to the streamer and boost its finances long-term.

The film, which has seen by half of the platform's subscribers, has surpassed the most-watched title that was originally held by the 2018 post-apocalyptic drama Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock.

Despite the success, Rotten Tomatoes has scored the film at 35 percent based on 155 reviews from critics.

Among the poor reviews are a two-star write-up in The Guardian, which branded the movie an overly-complicated attempt to recreate the success of the Indiana Jones movies.

However, 92 percent of viewers beg to differ as they gave it a fresh rating on the site.
