The partner of multimillionaire hotelier Sir Richard Sutton was left paralysed from the neck down after being 'repeatedly' stabbed in the back by her own son, a murder trial into the death of the businessman today heard.

Anne Schreiber, 66, was left with the devastating injuries following the stabbing which a court heard left Sir Richard's £2million country mansion near Gillingham, Dorset, looking like a 'warzone'.

Sir Richard, an 83-year-old baronet who owned a string of hotels including the Sheraton Grand on London's prestigious Park Lane, died in the knife attack in April.

Ms Schreiber's son Thomas is on trial accused of Sir Richard's murder and his mother's attempted murder.

Jury members have previously heard the aspiring painter, 35, fatally stabbed the businessman following rows about the inheritance of a family chandelier and a day at the races.

Schreiber has previously admitted the manslaughter of Sir Richard and pleaded guilty to driving a Range Rover dangerously on the A303, A4 and M3 during a 'high speed chase' after the stabbings. He denies murder and attempted murder.

Today, in his trial at Winchester Crown Court, jury members heard that Mrs Schreiber was stabbed so many times during the 'vicious assault' at Sir Richard's mansion that doctors used 27 litres of blood to save her life.

The average human has around five litres of blood in the body at anyone time.

Today Schreiber wept in the dock as an emotional phone call between him and his sister after the killing was played in court.

In it Schreiber broke down and apologised, blaming a 'demon' as Louisa Schreiber, 40, said their mother was paralysed from the neck down, on a ventilator and added: 'I don't even think she will make it.'

The 35 year old called his older sister Louisa Schreiber, 40, from prison on April 27, almost three weeks after he attacked his mother and her partner.

He said: 'Louisa, it's Tom. Please... please don't hang up... I'm sorry to bother you... I just wanted to hear your voice and see if mum's... see how mum's doing and things.'

His sister replied: 'I don't know what to say,' before Schreiber expressed his regret.

He said: 'I'm so sorry, it's completely fucking madness, it's a complete nightmare I have.

'I'm waking up every day hoping to wake up from this nightmare... I don't know what happened I completely lost control it's just complete madness and doesn't make any sense and I'm so sorry.
