The policeman was conducting speed checks on Orange Grove Road in Salisbury around 6.30am on Wednesday morning and attempted to intercept a vehicle by stepping onto the road the flag the driver down. The vehicle drove directly at the policeman and struck him. The officer was taken to hospital in a stable condition and is undergoing further medical assessment. The vehicle sped off from the scene and has since been located abandoned 6.4km away in Eaton Place, Wishart. The driver remains on the run. Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen a white Mercedes sedan in the Wishart area between 6.40 and 6.50am this morning to come forward. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
