A trivia night at a pub in Sydney's inner west has been linked to a Covid-19 cluster after 44 people tested positive for the virus.

Residents who attended pub trivia at the Oxford Tavern in Petersham on November 30 between 4pm and 10.30pm are urged to get tested immediately and self isolate.

Tests are now underway to determine if the flurry of positive cases are infected with the highly transmissible Omicron variant or the Delta strain.

Sydney Local Health District said under current health rules, vaccinated close contacts can stop isolating on December 6 after a negative test.

'If you are fully vaccinated, you can come out of isolation if you've had a negative test on or after December 6, but please have another test on December 12,' the health body advised.

'If you have not been fully vaccinated, please remain in isolation until December 12, and have another test on this date.'

The Oxford Tavern is currently closed for deep cleaning as staff get tested and enter isolation.

The venue plans to reopen its doors when workers can return on December 11.

This comes as the Prime Minister and NSW Premier were caught up in a Covid-19 alert issued for the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama in NSW last weekend.

Scott Morrison was campaigning at the racetrack for hours on Sunday as, spending time in race cars and talking to drivers and fans, all while unmasked.

Premier Dominic Perrottet was also at the event and told residents earlier this week 'It is time to go out and learn to live alongside the virus.'

'I want people to go out and enjoy the best of what Sydney has to offer,' he told reporters on Tuesday before news of the Bathurst 1000 and trivia cases came to light.

'I think it's great people going out and having a party again, enjoying their Christmas parties, so they should, that's the great aspect of our city.

'The alternative is to close down and keep closed forever, that's untenable, unworkable and won't be happening in our state.

'As we start to enjoy life again as we have in the past, people will contract Covid.'

While the NSW leader attended the famous V8 race, he was informed by health officials that he was not considered a close contact.

'Obviously, for those people who have been to Bathurst and have symptoms, they need to get tested. And, if there is advice from NSW Health, then they need to follow that advice,' Mr Perrottet told reporters.
