Chemist Warehouse has been accused of boosting the original price of magnesium tablets for its 'frenzy sale' to create the illusion of a bigger discount.

An eagle-eyed shopper took to Reddit to share two photos of the same product taken days apart.

One shows the price of Ethical Nutrients Mega Magnesium 240 Tablets at $48.59 during the pharmacy outlet's '3 day frenzy sale'.

But the other picture allegedly shows the exact same product retailing at $46.99 a day before the sale - $1.60 cheaper than the supposed sale price.

A post on social media site Reddit claims that Chemist Warehouse raised rather than lowered a price in a sale period. Pictured are two different prices for the same product

'Seriously Chemist Warehouse? Picture one is from yesterday, picture two from today. Blatant jacking up the price and then offering 'discount' on a '3 day frenzy sale'',' the Reddit poster said.

The original poster said they had already made a complaint to Chemist Warehouse about the alleged price differential.

Another poster suggested making a complaint to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

Daily Mail Australia contacted the ACCC and was told that it cannot comment on specific cases, but that misleading prices may include 'a "before", "was" or "strike through" price that is not the price those items were sold for in a reasonable period immediately before the sale period started'.

Businesses may also be misleading consumers
