A young father who was coward punched while on his first night out with his partner since the birth of their daughter is suing the pub, saying staff should have protected him. 

Jayden Ray and his partner Madeleine Driscoll had gone to their local pub the Gatton View Hotel, west of Brisbane, last Christmas season and were getting ready to leave after about two hours. 

Ms Driscoll went to the bathroom while Mr Ray called a cab and waited near the bar, where a group of males accused him of pushing in line, he told A Current Affair

He said the group then 'carried on amongst themselves' while he played on his phone but he was suddenly pushed from side. 

CCTV shows Mr Ray, in a blue shirt, then being punched in the head without warning by one of the group wearing a white t-shirt. 

Mr Ray's head sharply jolts back against a table and he drops to the floor. 

He then tries to get up but can't and is helped outside by two people where he said he regained
