A man was stabbed and pushed onto the train tracks during a fight with another man in the tourist-heavy Times Square subway station on Wednesday as New York City continues to see an ongoing surge in violent subway assaults.

The two men got into a fight on the platform while waiting for the N train before both went hurtling to the tracks at around 11:40 am, police said.

One of the men pulled a knife and stabbed the 52-year-old victim in the neck and back, before the two fell, according to authorities.

The stab victim was rescued from the tracks and transported to Bellevue Hospital in serious but stable condition.

The knife-wielding attacker, who has not been named as of Wednesday evening, was arrested at the scene, with charges still pending, cops said.

'They started fighting and both ended up on the tracks,' a police spokesman confirmed to DailyMail.com.

Transit police had requested that power be shut off to the northbound local tracks as they gathered evidence, which included a bloody towel taken from the platform.

Police have not revealed the cause of the fight.

It wasn't clear what the two were fighting about and neither of them made contact with a train, according to police.

Wednesday's incident is just the latest in a string of violent subway-related attacks that have plagued the city in recent months.
