Former George W. Bush political advisor Karl Rove went after Republican 'apologists' for the Jan. 6th rioters in a blistering op-ed and says patriotism demands that those responsible be held to account.

Rove issued his call in sharp Wall Street Journal piece posted the evening of Jan. 5th, where he said there should be 'no absolution' for anyone who coordinated the events.

'I’ve been a Republican my entire life, and believe in what the Republican Party, at its best, has represented for decades,' Rove writes. 'There can be no soft-pedaling what happened and no absolution for those who planned, encouraged and aided the attempt to overthrow our democracy,' writes Rove. 'Love of country demands nothing less. That’s true patriotism.'

He specifically called out Republicans 'who for a year have excused the actions of the rioters who stormed the Capitol, disrupted Congress as it received the Electoral College’s results, and violently attempted to overturn the election.'
