A Seattle officer shot and killed a burglar running around with just a towel on and wielding a machete after he stabbed a K9 officer to death and injured another cop. Dramatic body cam footage released over the weekend shows the moment two officers begin chasing down the burglary suspect, who has yet to be identified, on January 5. A Seattle Police Department sergeant pulls up in his car and tails the man while another officer and his police dog, Jedi, chase on foot. The officers yell at the man to stop and get on the ground multiple times before a third officer, Tim Jones, comes in to help as they release Jedi, who was slashed and stabbed by the suspect. 'I've got an intruder in my house,' the panic caller said. 'He's threatening me with the machete.' When officers arrived at the scene, a neighbor with a baseball bat could be scene driving away the suspect, who begins to run once he see the officers approach. In the body cam footage, a sergeant could be heard warning the man multiple times during the chase. 'Stop. stop now. Get on the ground. Do it now. Get on the ground,' the officer yelled after first brandishing his gun. The suspect ignores the officers, who quickly call for back up to cut off the chase. When the man begins to run again, Jedi was let loose, leading to the deadly incident. The Seattle Police Department held a memorial for Jedi on Monday, who had been with the department for five years. 'Jedi was one of the department's top performing K9s,' the SPD wrote in a tweet. 'He and his handler/partner were involved in many successful tracks, searches and apprehensions over fiver years serving the people of Seattle.
