On Monday it was confirmed that actor Gary Waldhorn, 78, died 'peacefully in his home', making him the sixth cast member of The Vicar of Dibley to pass away over the last decade.

The hit British sitcom ran for over twenty years after its first episode in 1994, and tells the story of Oxfordshire village Dibley, after it is assigned a female vicar following the 1992 changes in the Church of England that permitted the ordination of women.

However  the majority of the main cast members are now no longer alive, with Trevor Peacock, Emma Chambers and John Bluthal all having passed away since 2018.

Meanwhile Liz Smith and Roger Lloyd-Pack also shocked fans when they died in 2016 and 2014 respectively, leaving Dawn French and James Fleet - who played Geraldine Granger and Hugo Horton - as the only remaining living main cast members.
