It's one way to grab attention.
A Louisiana Senate candidate challenging GOP Sen. John Kennedy released an unconventional new ad featuring him lighting up a massive blunt to underscore the need for weed legalization.
Almost as if he were in a music video, Gary Chambers, a Democrat, is pictured seated on a black leather armchair in the middle of an empty field as he puffs on marijuana rolled into a blunt.
'Every 37 seconds, someone is arrested for possession of marijuana,' Chambers is heard saying in a voice-over recording. 'Since 2010, state and local police have arrested an estimated 7.3 million Americans for violating marijuana laws.'
Chambers then said that black people are four times more likely to be arrested for marijuana laws than white people. He then claimed that states 'waste' $3.7 billion enforcing marijuana laws each year.
'Most of the people police are arresting aren't dealers, but people with small amounts of pot, just like me,' he said.
Chambers said the ad was shot in New Orleans, where the City Council has recently voted to decriminalize marijuana.
