Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Malik McDowell has no memory of his bizarre, naked arrest in Florida on Monday, according to his mentor and former high school football coach, who is echoing suggestions that the 25-year-old was drugged. 'He said he doesn't remember anything,' former Southfield High School (Michigan) coach Reggie Wynns told Cleveland.com about McDowell, whom he's spoken with since the arrest. 'He was so emotional. It had me in tears.' A completely nude McDowell led police in Broward County on foot chase before attacking an officer and ultimately getting tasered and arrested outside a preschool in Deerfield Beach. McDowell, who remains on probation for assaulting police in Michigan in 2019, was released on $27,000 bond Tuesday night. He's been charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence and exposing his genitals in public. Footage from before and after the incident has since surfaced in bystander and surveillance videos, which have been authenticated to DailyMail.com by a source close to McDowell. One clip shows the 6-foot-6, 295-pound lineman charging and pummeling a Broward County deputy — footage that appears to confirm accusations in the arrest report obtained by DailyMail.com. However, TMZ has published a contrasting clip that shows a calm, clothed McDowell casually walking through a nearby gym less than an hour before the arrest. From there, the Detroit native reportedly went next door to take a shower in his hotel room. The emotional Wynns said he is struggling to understand how McDowell could have been running naked from police less than an hour later. 'You don't do a great job for 17 games starting for the Cleveland Browns and then go to a training facility, and then you're walking down the street [naked] and doing what he did,' said Wynns, who coached running backs at Southfield High and helped guide the recruiting process for McDowell, according to Cleveland.com. 'That doesn't make sense to me.' Police have not accused McDowell of being under the influence of drugs, but his attorney Adam Swickle has suggested to local media outlets that 'somebody may have slipped him something.' Wynns said he is eagerly anticipating the toxicology report. 'I don't know if someone laced him or what,' Wynns said. 'I don't know. That's not him at all. All I'm hoping is that when they test him, they figure out that he had been drugged.' Video from the arrest that emerged Tuesday shows McDowell sitting naked on a curb, where he was surrounded by police, who handcuffed him, placed him on a stretcher, covered him with a blanket and wheeled him away. At various times, McDowell could be seen smiling at officers. Although Wynns insists he doesn't recognize McDowell's behavior in his arrest videos, his former pupil has had several run-ins with the law. McDowell was arrested for DUI and disorderly conduct in 2017 after being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks. Then, during another DUI arrest in 2019, McDowell attacked police officers in Michigan and was later sentenced to 11 months in prison and suspended two games by the NFL. McDowell's attorney at the time, Mitchell Ribitwer, told the Detroit Free Press in 2019 that his client's problems stem from a 2017 ATV accident in which he suffered a head injury. The Seahawks released McDowell in 2017 before he had played a single down for the team, but his career was revived in Cleveland, where he signed a $660,000 one-year deal and ultimately started 14 games. 'He was trying, trying, trying so hard,' Wynns told Cleveland.com. Wynns not only stayed in contact with McDowell throughout the season, but even saw him play during the preseason and in Week 17 in Pittsburgh. 'He was fine,' Wynns said. 'We had great conversations. I called him during the season and we talked. When he had [COVID-19], I talked to him. There were no issues.' Wynns told Cleveland.com that he's unsure if McDowell continues to feel the effects of head trauma that he suffered in his 2017 ATV accident. 'I can't say it's CTE (the degenerative brain disease, chronic traumatic encephalopathy) because I don't know,' Wynns said. 'I can't say the ATV accident has something to do with this because I just don't know. It might. He was cleared [by the doctors], so it's hard to say.' McDowell is set to become a free agent in March, so his latest arrest could cost him his job. The Browns responded to the news on Tuesday in a statement. 'We are aware of the very concerning incident and arrest involving Malik McDowell and are in the process of gathering more information,' a Browns spokesperson said. 'We understand the severity of this matter and our thoughts are for the well-being of all involved. We will have no further comment at this time.'
