Matt Hancock has been pictured climbing a ladder during a visit to an RAF base in his latest bid to return to the top of politics following a considerable fall from grace.

The former Health Secretary's 'comeback tour' has included peeling off the layers for a dip in Hyde Park's icy Serpentine lake and evoking the late Steve Jobs in a roll neck and jeans during an unlikely appearance at Capital FM's Jingle Bells Ball in recent weeks.

And the stunt-loving Mr Hancock joined plane spotters during a visit to RAF Lakenheath for a meeting in his West Suffolk constituency on Thursday.

The ex-minister climbed one of the group's ladders to get a better view of aircraft landing and taking off from the military base.

One of the plane lovers told MailOnline that Mr Hancock was in 'high spirits' as he laughed and joked with the group.

They added: 'He said he was at the base for some official meeting as he’s the local MP.

'He only stayed for a few minutes but seemed in high spirits and was laughing and joking with us and seemed determined to try out our kit.’

Mr Hancock was forced to quit in disgrace following a lockdown-busting affair with married aide and millionaire lobbyist Gina Coladangelo in his Whitehall office in June.

The jaw-dropping footage was taken on May 6 - less than a fortnight before the Government relaxed safety rules including giving permission to hug.
