An eight-week-old baby died after contracting Covid-19 last month – the youngest person to die with the virus in Australia during the pandemic so far.
Health authorities confirmed the baby had died in hospital last month in the NSW Hunter New England region on Friday morning.
'Given uncertainties as to the cause of death, the case has been referred to the coroner,' it said in a statement.

'It would be inappropriate to comment further while the Coroner investigates this tragic death.
'We offer our sincere condolences to the family who we remain in contact with and continue to support.'
The tragic death comes just weeks after a 13-month-old Adelaide girl and a three-year-old Sydney boy died with Covid-19.
