Former millionaire Geoffrey Edelsten died a virtual pauper despite his desperate attempts to portray an image of extreme wealth in his final years.

The disgraced doctor, who at his financial peak owned the Sydney Swans AFL football club and travelled about in helicopters, died alone in a Melbourne apartment last year.

Edelsten's final will has now revealed the dire financial circumstances the notorious womaniser was in before his death.

Edelsten became a parody of his 80s self in the 2000s. He married Gabi Gecko (pictured) briefly before an ugly split

EDELSTON AND MR RENT-A-KILL

In October 1981, Christopher Dale Flannery was arrested over the murder of Sydney brothel owner Raymond Francis 'Lizard' Locksley, who had been murdered at Menai on May 11, 1979.

In 1982, a jury failed to reach a verdict and a retrial was adjourned until April 18, 1984.

Flannery was subsequently acquitted.

His trial had been scheduled for January 31, 1984.

However, he was provided with a medical certificate by Edelsten certifying that he was unfit for trial in order to avoid Flannery being tried by a particular judge.

Edelsten would also ask Flannery to fix up an ex patient who was causing him troubles.

The 78-year old was buried in a simple pine box within the Jewish gardens of the Springvale Botanical Cemetery - southeast of Melbourne - in June.

Surrounded by a small gathering of friends and family, it was hardly the lavish send-off expected of a man who had flaunted wealth all of his life - even when he didn't have it.

Probate documents filed with the Supreme Court of Victoria show Edelsten's supposed millions had all but vanished by the time of his lonely death.

Despite dying within a skyrise apartment above St Kilda Road - a stone's throw from Melbourne's CBD  - Edelsten didn't actually have a brick of property to his name.

Known in his final decades for tawdry marriages to accused drug dealer and former reality star Brynne Edelsten and high-flying prostitute Gabi Grecko, Edelston left the pair nothing of what was left of his pitiful estate.

He had already made 'substantial and excessive provision' for them during their marriages, he wrote in his will.

Edelsten had continued to live the high life up until his final breath despite losing much of the fortune chasing young women and publicity for decades.

A series of disastrous financial decisions had left Edelsten a bankrupt in the United States, but it would take years for forensic financial experts to track down his missing millions.

Edelsten would continue to flaunt his wealth all the way up until he disappeared from the spotlight. His wedding to Brynne Edelsten (pictured) cost about $3million

In 2014, after busting up with his second wife Brynne, Edelsten was still believed to be spending up to $48,000 a month on women, flights and whatever else
