After one of the toughest weeks of his political life, the Prime Minister's wife Carrie was spotted today without her wedding rings on.

But there was nothing to worry about for PM Boris Johnson - she had just had her wedding bands sent to the jewellers to be re-sized for the perfect post-pregnancy fit.

On Thursday, Carrie, 33, was seen stepping out of Downing Street in a green jumper and a black jacket, but a flash of her left hand showed she wasn't wearing her rings.

She was left without her wedding band and antique emerald, platinum and diamond engagement ring after sending them to the jewellers to be re-sized as they were rubbing together after her recent pregnancy.

Carrie and Boris, 59, welcomed their daughter Romy Iris Charlotte Johnson on December 9 at University College Hospital in London.

Romy is their second child, after the couple welcomed their son Wildfred, now 20 months, in April last year.

In 2021, Mrs Johnson had a miscarriage, which she said left her heartbroken, before becoming pregnant with Romy.

When Mrs Johnson announced the pregnancy, she said she and her husband were 'hoping for our rainbow baby this Christmas'.

A rainbow baby is the term given to a child born to a family that lost one to miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death.

When her daughter was born last month, Mrs Johnson wrote on Instagram: 'Thank you so much to the amazing maternity staff at UCLH for looking after us so well. We are so, so grateful.'

Boris and Carrie married in a private Catholic ceremony at Westminster Cathedral on May 29, with a small group of family and friends present, before having a small reception in the Downing Street garden.

The secretly planned ceremony saw Mr Johnson become the first Prime Minister to get married while in office in nearly 200 years.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has seen a challenging few weeks in his political career amid the Sue Gray report into Partygate.

He is spending the weekend at his country retreat after fending off an initial coup bid from so-called 'Pork Pie' plotters - but even supporters admit that his fate hangs on the conclusions of the top civil servant - expected next week.

It was claimed today that a raucous party held in Downing Street the night before the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral last year lasted seven hours and didn't finish until 1am.

Boris Johnson has already apologised to the Queen over two staff benders hours before she observed Covid regulations to sit alone as she bid farewell to her beloved consort.

But now details have been released of just how bacchanalian they were at a time in April when such indoor gatherings were banned.

And there are pictures to back up the claims, which could be handed to Partygate inquisitor Sue Gray.

According to the Telegraph, text messages show staff started drinking at 6pm and were still going after midnight.

Drinks were spilled over office equipment, pizzas were brought in and loud music played.

The paper also describes staff taking it in turns to play on a slide in the No10 garden belonging to Boris Johnson's young son, Wilf.

Hours later the Queen cut a lonely figure as she said goodbye to her husband of more than 70 years, having rejected an offer of a Covid rule exemption because she wanted to set an example to the nation.

Number 10 apparently contacted Buckingham Palace after the Duke of Edinburgh died on April 9 to make the offer. Two social events were then held in Downing Street just seven days later on the eve of the funeral.

The latest revelations come as Mr Johnson prepared to woo mutinous MPs from Chequers amid fears the Sue Gray report into Partygate will be worse than thought.

Allies hope that Ms Gray will stop short of condemning Mr Johnson personally, despite him having attended a 'BYOB' bash in the Downing Street garden in May 2020. But the mood music in Whitehall is said to be 'darkening' as Ms Gray gathers more evidence.

The premier is due to have more talks with restive backbenchers as he braces for the next phase of his survival struggle from the lavish surroundings of Chequers - although it is not clear if any have been invited to join him.

Partygate investigator Sue Gray 'uncovers email warning Boris Johnson's private secretary against holding drinks party at No 10 on May 20 2020 because it broke lockdown rules'

Partygate investigator Sue Gray has reportedly uncovered an email warning Boris Johnson's private secretary against holding a drinks party at No 10 on May 20, 2020 because it broke lockdown rules.

Ms Gray, the senior official leading an inquiry into claims of rule-busting gatherings across Government, is said to have found the email warning Mr Johnson's principal private secretary Martin Reynolds against holding the garden soiree.

The message, sent by a senior official, told Mr Reynolds that the gathering 'should be cancelled because it broke the rules', according to ITV News .

Mr Johnson has admitted attending the gathering in question for 25 minutes, but insisted he believed it was a work event, and that he was not warned it would be against the rules of England's first lockdown.

ITV News Political Editor Robert Peston, who reported that Ms Gray had found the email, said the discovery leaves a 'huge question' hanging over Mr Johnson's claim that he was not warned the party was against the rules.

Mr Peston said the senior official who sent the email told him that he 'probably' personally warned the Prime Minister against the party, 'but I honestly can't remember.'

Dominic Cummings, Mr Johnson's former top aide, was the first to claim that the party went ahead with the prime minister and his wife in attendance.

The initial reports were confirmed when ITV news released a leaked email from Mr Reynolds inviting more than 100 staff to 'make the most of lovely weather' by attending 'socially distanced drinks' in the Downing Street garden.

In a blog post, Mr Cumming wrote that Mr Reynolds 'checked with the PM whether the party should go ahead. The PM agreed it should'.

But Foreign Secretary Liz Truss - a potential successor - has lined up behind the premier, insisting he is doing an 'excellent job'. And Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng said he did not believe it is inevitable Mr Johnson will quit.

England was in step two of Mr Johnson's lockdown exit roadmap at the time of the funeral.

That meant funerals were allowed to have up to 30 attendees while wakes were restricted to 15 people.

There was also a ban on non-household socialising indoors while the rule of six applied to outdoor gatherings.

Two parties were held in Number 10 on April 16, 2021, as the country was in a period of mourning after
