Kevin Mccarthy compared on Monday the images from the southern border to what is happening in Ukraine as it endured more than a month of attacks from Russia.
'Can you imagine kids going to school, but the schools being shut down because of another car chase from the cartels becoming more powerful?' McCarthy questioned during a press briefing on the border crisis.
'Have you watched some of the footage of what goes on just on the other side of the border?' he continued. 'Looks like it comes from Ukraine – burning of cars. That's directly across from this nation.'
The House minority leader explained that some border districts have had to close schools – in one instance for 40 days – because of shootouts happening from across the border.
McCarthy said the president can help quell the crisis by simply telling migrants not to come to the U.S., claiming that ever since the 2020 campaign Joe Biden has told all those seeking to come to the country illegally or legally that they are welcome.
He was joined on Monday by Republican border state representatives as well as ones who oversee committees on national security matters to discuss the impending end of Title 42.
The policy was enacted in March 2020 under former President Donald Trump to allow for the immediate expulsion of migrants without hearing asylum claims in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
Biden continued and defended Title 42 in court since taking office, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced on Friday that it was bringing the policy to an end.
'Title 42 goes beyond just COVID itself, so there's a number of reasons why they should maintain it,' McCarthy said on Monday.
He also explained that the GOP is spearheading an effort to get legislation to the House floor by way of discharge petition that would stop Title 42 from ending until coronavirus pandemic restrictions end in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

An internal memo issued on Monday to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) prosecutors was obtained by BuzzFeed News, and details the latest effort from President Joe Biden's administration to reshape the immigration system.
The guidance was written by chief ICE attorney Kerry Doyle, a Biden appointee, was sent to prosecutors on Monday and represents another attempt by the agency to emphasize the discretion prosecutors have in court and lower the backlog of cases in immigration court.
'Prosecutorial discretion is an indispensable feature of any functioning legal system,' reads the new guidance, written by Biden appointed chief ICE attorney Kerry Doyle.
'The exercise of prosecutorial discretion, where appropriate, can preserve limited government resources, achieve just and fair outcomes in individual cases, and advance DHS's mission of administering and enforcing the immigration laws of the United States in a smart and sensible way that promotes public confidence,' Doyle wrote.
