Today Show host and TV personality Karl Stefanovic has hit out at 'woke brigade' who he claims are trying to 'ban the ham sandwich'.

Leaflets from the Cancer Council telling kids to stop eating ham sandwiches have been put in newsletters by teachers in NSW.   

The 'healthy eating leaflets' have prompted a furious backlash from parents, sick of the 'nanny state' telling them what to feed their kids.

During an interview with Bringelly Pork & Bacon owner David Bligh on Tuesday - Karl and fellow colleagues can be seen eating ham sandwiches.     

'You would have known for some time... That ham is delicious. But have you known for some time too that these woke brigade people have been coming at you?'  Mr Stefanovic said. 

Mr Bligh noted 'a lot of the preservatives and things that are put in ham an bacon are actually naturally occurring chemicals and preservatives because these sorts of things are found in spinach and vegetables and all of those sorts of things.'
