Radio host Ray Hadley has criticised Greens senator Lidia Thorpe's 'vile' deportation protest after revealing the immigrants she was defending are guilty of sex crimes and domestic violence.

The Victorian senator staged a viral protest on Tuesday in which she defended 12 'innocent' immigrants that were being transported to the Christmas Island Detention Centre from Melbourne's Immigration Transit Accommodation.

During her attack she stood directly in front of uncomfortable police officers and screamed 'How dare you?' while labelling them as 'criminals'.

On Wednesday, however, 2GB host Hadley shut down Ms Thorpe's claims about the detainees and labelled her an 'insensitive galoot', saying authorities had told him the 12 people involved had been assessed as 'high-risk detainees'.

'All are either section 501 or section 116 visa cancellations,' he said.
