A New Zealand man who killed a cat in an act of 'extreme violence' by throwing the beloved pet across a room at a backpackers hostel before bashing a woman has been jailed.
Clayton Tamakehu, 35, will spend two years behind bars after he pleaded guilty to the shocking incident while living at the Geeky Gecko hostel in Dunedin in December.
The court heard a resident's cat named Heidi was wandering around a shared bedroom when Tamakehu picked up the animal and slammed her into a bunk bed with 'considerable force'.
The cat was then hurled across the room and struck a set of metal lockers, Stuff reported.
