The head detective involved in the sexual assault case against NRL player Jack de Belin is under internal investigation, according to NSW police.
The Sydney Morning Herald claimed on Thursday that officers were investigating Wollongong detective Detective Senior Constable Shawn Adams, who was criticised by Judge Andrew Haesler for his behaviour during the footballer's case.
When Daily Mail Australia contacted NSW Police, a spokesperson confirmed an investigation is ongoing but declined to comment further.
It's alleged the detective accessed information from de Belin's phone that contained messages with his lawyer in preparation for his trial, where he was accused of raping a 19-year-old woman in a Wollongong apartment in 2018.
