These are the wonderful images in a new book which celebrates the quintessentially British obsession with picnics featuring photographs taken over the past century.
Despite the questionable weather, millions of people have stubbornly chose to eat outside enjoying the fresh air without a Mediterranean climate.
The photographs show people sitting on the roadside, on the beach or in a park, in locations across the UK.
The book is part of the Vintage Britain collection published by small, independent publisher Hoxton Mini Press for £17.95.
