The Texan actor has been besieged by tweets in the wake of Tuesday's massacre at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, that also killed a teacher, and left 18 year-old gunman Salvador Ramos dead. 'This is your hometown, these are your people! A word from you now will go further than a word from almost anyone else,' wrote one person. 'Please use your voice and address gun control in Texas. People listen to you,' wrote another. 'I really hope @McConaughey will reconsider his run for Governor after what occurred in his childhood hometown today. It's time to and his cronies out of office and get real gun control in place NOW!' 'I've got a lot of friends who are gun owners. I've got a lot of friends who are NRA. I grew up hunting. We had responsible gun ownership, but I was taught the right way to respect that tool,' McConaughey said. In 2020, the Oscar -winning actor visited his hometown of Uvalde bringing his mother, family matriarch Kay McConaughey and brother, Mike for an hour-long comedy show that included a question-and-answer session. Kay told of the family's moves across Uvalde, as they occupied homes on High, Getty and Third streets. The family left in 1979. 'Uvalde was the most perfect place to raise children,' Kay said. On Tuesday afternoon, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said 14 children had been killed at Robb Elementary, as well as a teacher and the shooter himself.
