Rishi Sunak will tomorrow give a House of Commons statement in which he is expected to unveil fresh support for Britons struggling through the cost-of-living crisis.
The Chancellor will deliver a statement on the economy to MPs following weeks of pressure for him to step up Government help for families facing rocketing bills.
Treasury sources suggested Mr Sunak's fresh support would focus on the poorest households.
The Chancellor recently promised that he was 'ready to do more' amid the inflation crisis, and vowed that 'as the situation evolves our response will evolve'.
In a speech last week, he spoke of a 'collective responsibility to help the most vulnerable in our society'.
But Mr Sunak also warned that an 'unconstrained' package of help for Britons could 'risk making the problem worse' by 'pushing up prices still further'.
There is nervousness in the Treasury and the Bank of England about any action that might embed high inflation - currently running at a 40-year high - in the UK economy.
