Boris Johnson is planning to revive regular press conferences from his £2.4million briefing room in Downing in order to show the public he is dealing with the cost-of-living crisis.

He is said to be planning to follow a similar format to the daily briefings that formed part of daily life during the Covid pandemic to show the public 'he's on their side'.

Ministers including the PM and Chancellor Rishi are expected to appear at the proposed events, alongside officials with charts filling the roles previously played by Professor Chris Whitty and Sir Patrick Vallance.

Reports today suggested they could be held weekly or monthly as the Government tries to get on a 'war footing' to tackle an issue hitting home with voters as petrol prices and domestic bills soar, causing a spike in inflation.
