The victims were identified as Matthew Garcia, 18 and Marcello Saldua, 18, Nueces County Medical Examiner Chief Investigator, Hugo Stimmler told DailyMail.com. The four students had been traveling back to W.B. Ray High School when the crash occurred, the Corpus Christi Independent School District said. 'Right now we believe that speed and racing are contributing factors to this tragic accident,' Corpus Christi Police Department PIO Senior Officer Travis Pace said in a statement to DailyMail.com. He added: 'This is still an active investigation to include interviewing witnesses, accident reconstruction, data collecting and processing.' Pace said an autopsy is pending. The two other passengers that were in front of the vehicle were transported to Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi Shoreline. Johnny Morgan, 18, one of the students that survived the devastating crash and suffered a concussion, was released from the hospital on Wednesday. His father told KRISTV that his son had been wearing a seatbelt, which saved his life. Since the loss of his friends, he said, in part, his son, is 'taking the news pretty hard,' the news outlet said. The victims were identified as Matthew Garcia, 18 and Marcello Saldua, 18. On June 3, the students were set to graduate W.B. Ray High School. On Tuesday, the students had been at the graduation rehearsal at the American Bank Center in downtown Corpus Christi in preparation for the big day. Garcia and Saldua were among the hundreds of students that were expected to walk the stage in their cap and gown. Instead, two chairs will remain empty during the ceremony to honor the high school seniors, who lost their lives too soon, KIIITV reported. When officers arrived, a two-door 2018 white Chevy Camaro, was found rolled over on its top with four males inside. Two of the males were pronounced deceased at the scene and two other males were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries 'Our Texan community is devastated by this loss of our graduating seniors,' High School Principal Roxanne Cuevas said. 'Our hearts go out to all the loved ones affected by this tragedy.' On Wednesday, Stimmler and investigator Luis Munoz were onsite after the crash to take photos, gather information for the preliminary report, and to transport the deceased. Stimmler told DailyMail.com called it a 'bad situation all around,' and said he to break the gut-wrenching news to the parents of the children killed. 'What makes it worse was thate these two young men were in the prime of their life,' he said. 'Our condolences go out to the family we are always here to help through this time.' Ray High School located in Corpus Christi Texas On Tuesday, at approximately 11:24 am, officers from Corpus Christi were summoned to 2300 block of Broadway Street and Port Avenue in Corpus Christi, Texas. When fire and rescue responders arrived they pulled the driver of the vehicle and rushed him to the hospital. Medics said he was in critical condition and unresponsive, Corpus Christi Cronica reported. The second victim sustained minor injuries and was able to communicate with police. Officer Travis Pace says the crash is being investigated currently and that speed was a factor. The four Ray High School student had just left from the American Bank Center downtown. They were practicing the graduation ceremony rehearsal. Both students were expected to walk the stage on Friday at 2 pm in their cap and gown as they receive their diploma, school officials said, the news outlet reported. "Marcello was a cousin, a son, a brother, a nephew and a grandson and his sudden passing has our family completely heartbroken," wrote his cousin Erica Ramirez. The father of one of the injured students, Johnny Morgan, told KRISTV that his son has been released from the hospital and is recovering from a severe concussion. Morgan credited his son's survival to the fact that he was wearing a seatbelt, and said that "unfortunately, he's taking the news about his other friends pretty hard." Saldua’s cousin Faith Galvan told Corpus Christi Cronica that the had gone to elementary school together and were close friends. Galvan, who described her cousin as 'funny' and someone who 'everyone wanted to be around,' said he 'couldn’t believe he was going to graduate and was about to walk the stage.'
