A paedophile who planned to escape with £10,000 after he was caught with incriminating child sex abuse photos has had the cash confiscared.

David Morris, 52, faced a Proceeds of Crime hearing at Liverpool Crown Court today.

In December he was sentenced to 16 years in jail for raping a young girl with his partner Julie Morris, 44.

RE teacher Julie Morris worked at St George's Central Primary School in Tyldesley, Wigan, where she was the 'safeguarding lead'. 

Liverpool Crown Court heard that none of the offences were related to Julie Morris' job as a deputy headteacher.

During a hearing at Liverpool Crown Court today, David Morris was made subject of a confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act in relation to the £10,000 he was found in possession of when trying to escape to the Lake District. 

The cash was seized by police at the time of his arrest and will be split between Merseyside Police and the Home Office to be reinvested in policing.

In September last year he was caught sending indecent photos to other paedophiles online.

The couple filmed themselves raping a young girl which a judge said was 'almost beyond belief'. 

Police raided Mr Morris' home on Sandfield Road in Eccleston, St Helens, where they seized his phone, computer and other digital equipment. 

He was arrested on suspicion of possession and distribution of indecent images of children, questioned by police and released on bail with conditions.

The next day police received information that Mr Morris and his partner Julie Morris had committed sexual offences against a child under 13 and were planning their escape.
