The identity of the US Navy pilot killed when his doomed jet went down in China Lake near Death Valley during a routine training mission has been revealed.
Lt. Richard Bullock was flying an F/A-18E Super Hornet when it crashed at approximately 2:30 pm on Friday afternoon in the vicinity of Trona, California, Navy officials said.
Bullock crashed in a remote, unpopulated area, near the Navy's test range at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, Calif., USNI News previously reported.
Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake Federal Firefighters and Naval Security Forces were on site as recovery efforts were underway.
'The Navy mourns this tragic loss alongside the family, friends and shipmates of Lt. Bullock,' the Navy said in a statement.
Lt. Richard Bullock, a native of Montana, had been assigned to 'the Stingers' of VFA-113 since April 2021. In 2016, he commissioned into the Navy via an officer candidate school in Newport, Rhode Island, according to his biography
