Sir Roger Gale has said that he would 'be surprised if Boris Johnson is still in Downing Street by the end of autumn' in wake of the confidence vote.
The Prime Minister survived a confidence vote, which saw 211 lawmakers cast ballots in favour of Johnson against 148, on Monday.
However, a large rebellion in his Conservative Party over the so-called 'partygate' scandal dealt a blow to his authority and leaves him with a struggle to win back broad support.
The MP for North Thanet, 78, who is an outspoken critic of the Prime Minister and voted 'no confidence', said he still thinks Boris Johnson should not take the party into the next election.
