A Florida man was shot dead by SWAT officers after murdering someone and then holding his girlfriend hostage in a shed for nine-and-a-half hours on Wednesday.
The suspect, Juan Sarmiento, 42, has long rap sheet of violent criminal activity, according to police.
Traffic was closed on a major state highway next to the residence where the situation played out in Wimauma, Florida, while negotiators and members of the Sarmiento's family, pleaded with him to turn himself in.
Sarmiento was finally shot by a SWAT member after the standoff carried through the night and into the next day. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
The body of the person Sarmiento allegedly murdered was found in a car parked near the shed, and authorities are waiting for a search warrant so they can investigate.

Shortly after the standoff ended, Sheriff Chad Chronister detailed the events to reporters at a news conference on the site of the incident.
Just before midnight on June 7, a man called police to report that his friend, Sarmiento, had asked him to help remove some trash from a residence. When he arrived he found Sarmiento asking for help disposing of a man he had killed.
'When he arrived at the residence, he immediately noticed that the trash his friend wished him to dispose of was a deceased male victim wrapped in plastic laying across the backseat of a car,' said Chronister.
'He helped guide our deputies to the 5600 block of Center Street, where the first two responding deputies saw the deceased individual laying in the backseat of the car, and at the same time heard a male and a female voice inside a eight by ten shed.'
