The Los Angeles deputy district attorney has slammed his boss DA George Gascon as a cheerleader for criminals who encourages them to 'commit more crimes,' which has led to low office morale. 

Shea Sanna claimed George Gascon, 68, is a criminal's 'champ' and neglects the need for 'public safety' and residents' feelings. 

Sanna also said Gascon's policies make it hard for the DA's office to do their job, because 'as soon as we catch a perpetrator, we have to release them.' 

When Gascon took office in 2020, he drastically changed prosecution rules, including getting rid of sentence enhancements for guns and gangs. The change also took place retroactively, leading to many criminals with life sentences being reduced significantly. 

Californians have become fed up with Gascon's lax reform laws and the DA now faces a potential recall, as many officials warn he could be next after San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin's recall. 

The recall comes as Gascon recently sentenced a juvenile, who hit and run a mother and her child, to only five to seven months in a probationary camp, which prosecutors have described probation camps as 'less than a military school and a little bit tougher than a summer camp.' 

Gascon office said that juvenile justice was intended to 'rehabilitate young people.'

Gascon has also been criticized recently as prison phone calls are being leaked, with many talking to loved ones about cutting a deal with Gascon's office for lesser charges and time, as well as, murderers celebrating their life without parole sentences being significantly reduced to mere years.  

Sanna is among those who are fed up with letting criminals back out on the street, telling Fox News: He's in [criminals'] corner, not the victims, and not the people, and not for public safety.'

'It's just hard to do our job because as soon as we catch a perpetrator, we have to release them.' 

He also said criminals are 'not stupid' and know that Gascon will not increase their charges if they bail on court.  

'So, why come to court? You're not going to be punished. And while you're out on bond or [own recognizance], why not commit more crimes because you're not going to be punished? And if you do get caught, you're going to get a light sentence,' he told Fox News.

Last week, the LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, 59, called out Gascon for 'claiming that the Sheriff's Department was okay with the lightweight sentencing' of a juvenile in a horrific hit-and-run involving a mother and her child. 

Gascon suggested the Sheriff's Department had agreed with the charges, together with the DA's office, but Villanueva denied it. Gascon later corrected his statement. 

The 17-year-old was sentenced to five to seven months in a juvenile probation camp after he allegedly intentionally ran over Rachel, who was pushing a stroller with her son Charlie in it. 

The teen reportedly intentionally sped up and veered the car toward the pair. Rachel, whose last name was not released, and her son flipped on top of the car during the high-speed impact. Miraculously, the child was unharmed and Rachel suffered lacerations and bruises. 

The teen also tested for drugs at the time of the crash.  

Another juvenile case that caused national outrage toward Gascon was Hannah Tubbs, a transgender criminal who allegedly sexually assaulted a girl in the woman's restaurant at a Denny's as a teenager in 2014. The 26-year-old was tried as a juvenile, despite being eight years over the legal age.
