President Joe Biden on Friday broke away from a speech on what he calls his top priority – confronting inflation – to highlight the House January 6 hearings and forces that he described as threatening democracy with a 'dagger.'
Biden made the comments at the top of a speech on inflation and supply chain issues, staged in the Port of Los Angeles to illustrate supply chain actions.
But he immediately brought up the issue that is captivating Washington – following press reports about staff grumbling about travel speeches that don't always get picked up due to low news content.
He called the events of Jan. 6 'one of the darkest chapters in our nation’s history,' and highlighted the 'brutal attack on law enforcement,' following jarring testimony from Capitol Police Officer Caroline Edwards, who sustained a traumatic brain injury fending off protesters Jan. 6th. She has still not returned to work.
