Reports of attacks by bats are on the rise in the Gold Coast with one local telling of his horror encounter as one wildlife expert claimed the mammals have no intention to hurt humans.
As many as 17 confirmed bat encounters with humans have recently occurred across the Gold Coast, with 10 in the past three weeks.
Surfers Paradise man Brian Ogibney, 41, spoke about his terrifying ordeal when he was attacked by a bat on his walk home from the grocery store.
Mr Ogibney recalls his walk being interrupted when a bat flew out of a low tree at him 'three or four times', the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.
After discovering a scratch on his hand he decided to seek medical help.
While seeking medical attention Mr Ogibney said he was joined at the clinic by another bat attack victim, with the doctor saying he had seen a bat-related injury every day for the past fortnight.

Growing up in America, Mr Ogibney said he was prepared for
