A five-year-old boy died in a Texas suburb Monday after his mom left him in a hot car outside their house for hours while preparing for her other child's birthday party.

Cops said the mom had been out running errands for the party with the two kids when they arrived back at the Harris County home, and that the mom and other child, an eight-year-old girl, left the vehicle and entered the home.

However, the boy remained in the back, still strapped to his seat. 

It wasn't for thee hours, cops said, that the mom noticed the boy had been left behind - but by then it been too late.

The tragic incident was reported to police at 2 pm. The car was parked outside the family home
