A woman was brutally slashed across the face and back by her boyfriend during the busy morning rush in a New York City subway station.

The attack was reported at 9:19 a.m. on Tuesday morning inside of Fulton Street Station in lower Manhattan.

Officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD) found a 49-year-old woman profusely bleeding from her head after what they called a 'domestic dispute.'

She can be seen sitting on the ground in footage from the station, surrounded by huge splashes of blood with a towel to her face.

She was later taken outside and loaded into an ambulance by paramedics. 

The victim was brought to Bellevue Hospital, where she is believed to be in stable condition.
