The fallout from The Project host's speech after winning an award for her interview with alleged rape victim Brittany Higgins has stretched into a fourth day after the accused rapist's trial was delayed as a result of Wilkinson. Australian Bar Association president Dr Matthew Collins was approached to represent Wilkinson and Network 10 on Wednesday amid concerns she could be charged with contempt of court or similar offences, The Australian reported. Channel Ten has confirmed Collins has been hired by the network to represent Wilkinson. 'Both Network 10 and Lisa Wilkinson take their legal obligations very seriously, including in the preparation and delivery of her speech given at the Logies event,' a spokesperson said. Lisa Wilkinson (pictured during her Logies speech) could be charged with contempt of court 'In light of the continuing proceedings, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.' Dr Collins was approached just hours after he warned there's a 'serious possibility' Wilkinson could be charged with contempt of court. 'It's certainly possible that the authorities will be looking at the speech that she made to the Logies and assessing that speech against the standard which applies in this branch of the law,' he told Sunrise on Wednesday. 'That standard is, did anything that she do have a tendency to interfere with the administration of justice?' He believes Wilkinson, who's been in the media industry for more than 40 years should have known better. 'You would hope that whenever the media is contemplating running a story about a serious criminal trial which is about to begin, they would be attune to the potential risks,' Dr Collins added. 'The mainstream media understand the risk inhering with talking about cases which are about to go to trial, particularly serious high-profile cases.'
