Verushan Manoharan, 31, is accused of killing Sakunthala Francis after she was discovered with knife wounds at around 9.20pm on Tuesday. Paramedics rushed to the flat in Thornton Heath, south London, and discovered the pensioner, then called police when she was pronounced dead at the scene. Manoharan was arrested later that evening in nearby Croydon, south London, and charged with murder last night. Her family are aware and are being supported by specialist officers. A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course. 'A man was arrested at another address in Croydon a short time later. He was later charged as above. 'Enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances. At this stage, nobody else is sought in connection with the death. The deceased and the man charged are grandmother and grandson.'
