A drunken mother of one with no previous convictions has been spared jail after accidentally cutting a man's head open as she tried to pour a drink over him during an argument in their local pub.

KFC worker Laura Murphy, 35, was so intoxicated she inadvertently smashed the glass in Stephen Brolly's face as she attempted to soak him with a double vodka and cola.

Mr Brolly suffered a cut to his forehead and had to be given first aid by staff at the Bradley public house in Widnes, Cheshire - but only minor treatment was required and he declined to make an official complaint.

Murphy was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, which she admitted at Warrington Magistrates Court.

The incident occurred on March 25 of this year at around 10.20pm, when Murphy was at the pub with her boss and other colleagues from the fast food chain.

Murphy admitted to having consumed six pints of cider prior to arriving at the pub, followed by two more drinks at the pub, before ordering a double vodka and cola which she then attempted to throw over Mr Brolly.

She was described as 'extremely intoxicated' at the time, being so drunk the court heard she could not recall the incident, or what happened to cause it.

She was arrested by police following a review of CCTV footage.

She later claimed the glass must have slipped out of her hand as she remonstrated with Mr Brolly and his friends after she began drunkenly dancing around the premises.

At Warrington magistrates court Murphy, of Widnes, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was ordered to pay the victim £100 compensation.

She was also ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work 20 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement Days and pay £180 in costs and a victim surcharge.
