An obsessed stalker who is alleged to have repeatedly emailed The Crown star Claire Foy about her being raped and bombarded her with 1,000 emails in one month poses a 'significant risk', a court heard today.

Jason Penrose, 39, sent the actress' publicist Emma Jackson vile emails about the star being raped and said he wanted to be her boyfriend, as well as showing up at her home and ringing the doorbell 'constantly', the court was told.

Ms Jackson forwarded the emails to Ms Foy's agent, who also received the messages but had blocked the sender's account.

Penrose, who gave his address as Highgate Mental Health Centre, was accompanied by NHS workers at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court in London on Thursday, where the court was adjourned while Penrose's mental health is assessed.

Ms Foy, 38, who played The Queen in the first two series' of hit Netflix show The Crown, called police on December 17 last year to report Penrose, from Paddington, London, had turned up to her home and was ringing her doorbell.

This followed the star's publicist receiving numerous explicit emails, including 1,000 of them sent between November and December 2 2021.

Ms Jackson allegedly received an email from Penrose at 9.30pm on November 2 of last year, which read: 'I'm sorry I think Claire should not be talking about any personal stuff in media and only creative business.'

At 5.10pm the next day a new email arrived which read: 'If they f*** raped Claire in the a** and bruised her inner thighs, she could get lots of cheap magazine covers or a hundred dollar f***dates in Europe.'

Emails then became more frequent, and Ms Foy's publicist forwarded them to her agent.

The agent reportedly told Ms Jackson they were also receiving emails from this account but had blocked it.

Matters escalated when Penrose showed up at Ms Foy's home on December 17 2021 - at which point the actress called the police reporting he was outside her residence ringing on her doorbell constantly.

Magistrates at Highbury Corner heard Penrose speak to confirm his name, date of birth and address. He requested a lawyer and asked for media to be banned from the hearing - this last request was denied

The actress was granted a temporary Stalking Protection Order in February which bans Penrose, who currently resides in a mental health hospital, from contact with her or her publicist while the investigation continues.

He was banned from attending their homes, places of work or anywhere he would reasonably expect them to be - and any breach could be prosecuted as a criminal offence.
